With $100 billion spent annually on weed control, weeds still impose a $46 billion cost on the US economy each year by depriving crops of sunlight and nutrients. This situation forces farmers to choose between incurring higher costs or accepting lower yields. Many farms continue to rely on manual labor for weed control, a method that is slow, costly, and increasingly challenging due to persistent labor shortages, with 20% of US farm positions remaining unfilled annually. The robot, known as the Field Hand, automates one of the most arduous tasks on a farm, contributing to more efficient and sustainable food production.
